Project Overview

The Great Indian Science Fest was a family-focused event organised at KOPA Mall, Pune, across three weekends in February and March 2024.

The event brought together interactive science pavilions, experiments, workshops and hands-on activities in a mall environment. Alongside the on-ground experience, MakerMasti implemented an outreach programme involving schools, academies, social media creators, media coverage and ticketing platforms. The festival aimed to encourage participation from children and families while extending awareness across the surrounding catchment areas.

The Brief

The event focused on creating a distinctive science-themed family festival that would attract children, engage parents and connect with local schools and learning academies. The objectives were as follows:

  • Attract 1,000+ students.
  • Achieve 2,000+ footfall.
  • Connect with 20+ schools.
  • Activate local academies.
  • Deliver premium, out-of-the-box experiences.
  • Reach neighbouring catchment areas.

The Challenge

Creating a successful family event within a mall environment requires both an engaging on-ground experience and effective audience outreach.

For KOPA Mall, the event needed to appeal to children and parents while building awareness among nearby schools, academies and families. The challenge involved connecting the science-themed programming with multiple promotional channels and coordinating outreach to encourage event registrations and participation.

MakerMasti addressed this through a combination of interactive activities, school and academy engagement, digital promotion, media visibility and ticketing-platform outreach.

The Approach

MakerMasti combined experience-led programming with a multi-channel marketing and outreach strategy.

  1. 01

    Hands-on science programming

The festival programme included science pavilions, fun experiments, science workshops, hands-on science activities and science projects. Additional offerings listed in the event plan included science-toy takeaways, a photobooth and certificate distribution.

  2. 02

    School and academy outreach

MakerMasti used direct outreach to connect with schools and local learning academies. The methods listed in the event report included calls, school visits, meetings, bulk WhatsApp messaging, emails, shout-outs and free-ticket distribution. The outreach effort recorded:

    • 165 academies spoken to
    • 35 academy visits
    • 12 academies receiving ticket distribution
    • 1,000+ tickets distributed through academy outreach
    • 50+ instances of academies sharing messages in groups
  3. 03

    Social media and creator promotions

Social media marketing across Instagram, YouTube and Facebook supported the event’s promotional efforts. The campaign also involved 20+ Instagram creators from Pune and 100 mom influencers from Pune, who shared promotional videos or stories with registration links.

  4. 04

    Media and ticketing-platform visibility

The outreach plan included print and digital media visibility, BookMyShow and Paytm Insider. The BookMyShow promotional methods listed in the report included banners, push notifications, category banners, sponsored ads, SMS, emailers and social media marketing. Together, these channels supported awareness and registration efforts before and during the festival.

The Experience: Science, Discovery and Family Participation

The Great Indian Science Fest was designed around participation, exploration and shared family experiences.

  • Science pavilions and experiments

Interactive science pavilions gave children and families opportunities to explore demonstrations and experiment-based activities. The event photographs document children engaging with activity stations and participating in hands-on science experiences.

  • Workshops and science projects

Science workshops and projects formed part of the festival programme, allowing participants to explore scientific concepts through practical activities.

  • Science toys and certificates

Science-toy takeaways and certificate distribution were included among the programme offerings, adding take-home elements and recognition to the experience.

  • Family engagement

The event brought parents and children together through interactive activities. Feedback featured in the event report highlights experiences such as dry ice and bubble experiments, with participants describing the festival as enjoyable and educational.
